Pressed Design (2008 )
Project presented as part of the “Les Energies Propres” conference at the University of Pau (France) 25 April 2008
TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Suitcase. Silicone design objects to place in an apartment. Photographic documentation material.
Pressed Design: "If the energy required to compress an object is less than the energy required to send it, there is a net energy saving"
The objects are not perfectly fitted together but crushed, compressed, in a small suitcase... the idea was born precisely because the theme is that of energy... and talking about energy refers me directly to energy saving, hence the phrase in the subtitle ( which I borrowed from computer science and extrapolated from a document that talked about data compression)
Physically, less energy is required to transport a small suitcase full of compressed objects than a large box of fragile glass or ceramic vases; but we could also talk about saving mental energy: it is less stressful to use a silicone object, "mistreatable" and indestructible, compared to a fragile, delicate glass vase,
The idea of compressibility, born from the search for generic energy savings, then leads to the proposal of "kits for travellers" (melancholy?); to take with you, everywhere, a little piece, a sign... of your home, your roots, your culture... so as not to get lost in the anonymity of contemporary travel.
