“PLASTICCRACY” SPHERE (2010)
Born from a collaboration between the artist-designer Raffaella Bandera and the architect Margherita Bilato, exhibited until 6 June 2010 at the Civic Museum of Modern Art of Varese - Castello di Masnago as part of the Artparty exhibition.
Material: 300 PET bottles from post-consumer waste; 1 sphere in recycled polyethylene.
Four billion tons of municipal and industrial waste produced every year in the world. In Italy we produce 550 kg per capita per year. Separate waste collection reached 27.5%.
The sphere undoubtedly evokes an image or concept of perfection, starting from the physical foundation according to which it represents the most efficient shape, capable of enclosing the greatest volume using the smallest surface area. The form-content relationship was at the center of the project's implementation. Faced with the overbearing completeness of the sphere, waste, which represents the antithesis of perfection, i.e. waste, the useless, is its content, the matter of which the sphere is made up.
